Common Nissan Problems We Fix
Here are the Nissan problems we see most often, what you'll notice first, and what we do about each one.
Engine Noise and Oil Burning
Burning oil and engine rattle. You're adding oil between changes, or the engine rattles or clunks, on 2002 to 2006 Altima and Sentra four-cylinder models. A part in the exhaust can break apart and send pieces back into the engine, and a worn timing chain part can rattle. We check for both before you replace anything else.
Whine from the engine and oil use. A whine from the front of the engine or oil burning between changes on V6 Maxima, Murano, Pathfinder and Altima models. Worn timing chain parts cause the whine, and worn parts inside the engine burn oil. We listen, check the oil and read the engine's data before we recommend a repair.
Transmission Problems
Shaking, hesitation or surging. Shaking, noise, hesitation or surging when you drive, common on 2013 to 2016 Altima, 2013 to 2017 Sentra and 2012 to 2017 Versa models. These automatic transmissions are tend to wear out early. We check the transmission, its fluid and software before any parts are replaced.
Rogue and Pathfinder transmissions. Hesitation or a whining noise on 2015 Rogue and Pathfinder models. Fresh fluid is the best way to keep these transmissions going. We service the transmission with the right Nissan fluid so it lasts longer.
Radiator Leaks and Shuddering
Pink or milky transmission fluid. Milky transmission fluid, overheating or shifting problems on 2005 to 2010 Pathfinder, Xterra and Frontier models. The radiator can leak coolant into the transmission and ruin it. We test the cooling system and replace the radiator before the transmission is damaged.
Shudder and jerking. A shudder, jerking or loss of power on Maxima, Murano and other Nissans with the same style of automatic. A belt inside the transmission can slip. Catching it early with a fluid and software check can save you a much bigger repair.
