Common Land Rover Problems We Fix
Here are the Land Rover problems we see most often, what you'll notice first, and what we do about each one.
Air Suspension and Oil Leaks
Sagging or a suspension warning. One corner sits low, the ride feels harsh, or a suspension warning comes on, common on the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and LR3. The air bags that hold the vehicle up wear out or leak slowly, and the pump that fills them can fail too. We test each part and replace only what has failed.
Burning oil smell. A burning oil smell, smoke from under the hood, or dark spots where you park. Worn engine gaskets are the most common cause. A plastic tray under the engine can hide where the oil is coming from, so we find the exact leak before replacing anything.
Coolant Leaks and Timing Chains
Losing coolant. A low coolant warning, a sweet smell, or the temperature gauge climbing, common on the LR3, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. Plastic cooling parts crack with age, and water pumps and hoses wear out. Running low can overheat the engine. We find the leak and repair the cooling system.
Rattle or knock from the engine. A rattle or knock from the engine, especially on 2012 to 2014 Range Rover Sport models, often between about 48,000 and 87,000 miles. A worn timing chain can ruin the engine if it fails. We check it early and handle the timing chain replacement when it's needed.
Shifting Problems and Fuel Smells
Shifting into neutral or harsh shifts. The transmission slips into neutral, shifts harshly, or shows a warning, most often on 2014 and 2015 Evoque and 2015 Discovery Sport models. Often a software update or fresh fluid is part of the fix. We check the codes and service the transmission with the right fluid.
Smell of fuel. A gas smell around the vehicle, most often on 2010 to 2016 LR4 and 2010 to 2013 Range Rover Sport models, where a part on top of the fuel tank can crack. If you smell fuel, call us right away. We'll find the source and tell you if it's a free dealer repair.
