Common Acura Problems We Fix
Here are the Acura problems we see most often, what you'll notice first, and what we do about each one.
Timing Belts and Water Pumps
Timing belt due. The V6 in the RL, TL and MDX uses a timing belt that needs replacing at about 105,000 miles or 7 years. If it breaks while you're driving, the engine can be badly damaged. We check your mileage and the age of the belt, then replace it before it fails.
Water pump with the belt. The timing belt also turns the water pump, so a pump that leaks or locks up can take the belt with it. Since the same labor reaches both, we replace the belt, the pump and the other worn parts at the same visit to save you money.
Transmission Problems
Slipping or lost gears. Slipping between gears, a lost gear, shuddering at 25 to 45 mph, or a car that won't move in drive, mostly on 1999 to 2003 TL and 2001 to 2003 MDX models. We check the transmission fluid and shifting before it fails completely.
Newer nine-speed issues. Rough shifts, a fluid leak or a check engine light on 2015 and newer TLX and 2016 and newer MDX models. Software updates and fresh fluid fix many of these. We service the transmission and check which updates yours has.
AC Blowing Warm
Grinding, then warm air. A loud grinding from under the hood followed by warm air from the vents on 2004 and newer TSX models. The AC compressor is wearing out. We find the cause and repair the AC.
AC that fails again. When an AC compressor breaks apart, it can send metal bits through the whole system. A new compressor alone will fail again. We replace the filter part, flush the system and recharge it so the repair lasts.
